Chusock

One of the big holidays for Korea is Chusock. It is a three day holiday that we could liken to Thanksgiving for us. It is a time when everyone goes to their parents home to enjoy each other and to eat a lot of food. Because it is a time for going home, it is not a good idea to travel if you don't have to, but of course if you are going home you have to travel.

So while Ron, Danielle and family were in the midst of Ike we were sitting around eating, playing games and watching movies with friends. Our hearts did go out to them as we were eating our third meal in as many hours when I said I bet the eye of the hurricane is over them right now.

A tradition here is for the grandchildren to bow to their grandpa and if he/she makes a favorable impression the child will be given money. I like the idea of being bowed to but I am not sure about the part of giving away money. I have attached a video of Nikki bowing to me and to Carol. Their are two different ways of bowing.

Here is a picture of us playing Phase 10. Carol won. The two girls are Nikki from Daejeon and Lauren from Albuquerque.

After dinner at the mission home

As Chuseok is a three day holiday Sunday we had lunch at the mission home with just the office missionaries. After lunch we attended church. There were not many there. We had more missionaries than members as everyone had gone home. Brother Hwan and Sister Ahn came in their best Korean clothing. It was really their wedding clothes.
